tourist fishing in Norway \u2013 guidelines and responsibilities\n  <\/h3>\n\n  <p>\n    Tourist fishing in Norway is regulated to protect marine ecosystems\n    and ensure the sustainable use of fish stocks. Businesses that offer\n    recreational sea fishing to tourists \u2013 and meet the official registration\n    requirements \u2013 must be registered with the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    Registered tourist fishing businesses are required to report catches daily.\n    All catches must be recorded digitally after each fishing trip \u2013 including\n    trips with no catch. The reporting obligation applies regardless of the\n    tourist\u2019s nationality or place of residence.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    The reporting requirement specifically applies to five species: cod,\n    halibut, coalfish, redfish and wolffish. Catches must be documented by\n    species, date, vessel and number of fish. Fish that are caught and released\n    must also be recorded. It is not permitted to sell your catch.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    Guests staying with a registered tourist fishing business may export up to\n    15 kg of fish or fish products, twice per calendar year. You must be at least\n    12 years old and have fished through a registered business.\n    <strong>From 1 January 2027, the export quota will be reduced to 10 kg.<\/strong>\n    Trophy fish may not be exported in addition to the quota.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    Fish below the minimum size limit must be released immediately. Halibut over\n    two metres must always be released. A minimum distance of 100 metres must be\n    maintained from aquaculture facilities while fishing, and boats must stay at\n    least 20 metres away from farm structures and moorings.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    Direct harvesting of king crab is not permitted unless carried out through\n    an approved scheme in Finnmark. Under specific conditions, foreign nationals\n    holding a valid licence may participate in coastal seal hunting, provided\n    they are accompanied by a Norwegian citizen.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    These regulations are in place to protect Norway\u2019s coastal and fjord\n    environments and to ensure fair access to marine resources. must follow the minimum size regulations.\n    The purpose is simple: small fish must be allowed to grow, reproduce and\n    sustain healthy stocks.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    There are exceptions for species such as mackerel and saithe, provided the\n    catch is not sold. Tusk, wolffish and pollack have no minimum size limits.\n    The most common species with size limits are cod, haddock, crab and lobster.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <h3 id=\"protecting-undersized-fish\">\n    How we protect the fish\n  <\/h3>\n\n  <p>\n    To avoid catching undersized fish, use larger hooks, nets with wider mesh,\n    or move to a different area. If you catch a small fish, wet your hands in\n    seawater, remove the hook carefully and release it quickly.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    If the fish is dead or not viable, it may be used for food \u2014 but you should\n    then change location or method to avoid repeated small catches.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    Deliberate harvesting of undersized fish may lead to penalties. The intention\n    is not punishment, but protection. Recreational fishing in the fjords affects\n    fish stocks more than many realise. Small individual catches add up over time.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    We are privileged to harvest from the sea.
