On the trail to Hindrum Summer Farm, you don’t just move upward in elevation, but back in time to a Norway where summer farm life was the very pulse of the mountain wilderness.
This 12.7-kilometer one-way route starts from Revelltun or Hindrum Fjord Center and takes you through the majestic Skaret to Hindrum Summer Farm, a farm with roots back to the early 1700s where electricity and running water remain unknown conveniences. The trail leads you through a landscape that changes character with every turn – from lush valleys to weathered mountain plateaus where mountain lakes mirror the sky. You can choose to make this a round trip back the same way, or finish at the parking area in Rian where you can be picked up. This is more than a mountain hike – it’s a journey into the heart of Norwegian mountain tradition.
Here steep mountain sides meet the quiet wisdom of wetlands – an experience that opens both body and soul to the mountain wilderness’s deepest secrets.
The trail is thoroughly marked, but demands respect and caution, especially when precipitation has made the bedrock slippery and challenging. Along the way reveals itself a rich wildlife and flora that has adapted to the mountain climate’s demands through millennia. The wetland landscapes create a unique contrast to the robust mountain formations, and here you can experience the deep peace found only in such vulnerable ecosystems. When you pass the old summer farms, history comes alive – you can almost hear the echo of generations who lived and worked here, removed from modern society’s noise and stress.
